Aqua Texas, Inc. is a subsidiary of Aqua America, Inc., the largest U.S.-based publicly traded water company. Based in Austin, Aqua Texas serves approximately 170,000 residents across the state. The company operates approximately 375 water and wastewater systems in 49 counties, including highly populated areas of Denton, Harris, Hays, Hood, Kerr, Montgomery, Tarrant, Travis and Williamson counties.
The largest investor-owned water and wastewater company in the state, Aqua Texas began operations in July 2003 when Aqua America acquired the investor-owned water and wastewater systems formerly owned by AquaSource, Inc., a subsidiary of electric utility company DQE. (AquaSource is a separate, unrelated entity to Aqua America and Aqua Texas.)
Aqua Texas’ water supply system comprises approximately 500 wells and 750 miles of pipe to provide drinking water to its customers. With more than 300 treatment plants across the state, the company is able to treat and deliver 72 million gallons of water daily.
The average daily usage of Aqua Texas’ system is approximately 15 million gallons. During peak demand periods, the company satisfies customer needs by taking treated water from storage tanks and standpipes, which can hold 20 million gallons.
Aqua Texas employs nearly 120 people, including engineering, environmental compliance, administrative and operations staff. In addition to the Austin headquarters, the company has division offices in Fort Worth and Spring (Houston suburb).
Aqua America's utility companies employ approximately 1,500 people who provide water and wastewater services to more than 2.5 million residents in Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Florida, New Jersey, Indiana, Virginia, Maine, Missouri, New York, and South Carolina. The corporate headquarters are located in Bryn Mawr, PA, in the Greater Philadelphia region.
Aqua America is listed on both the New York and Philadelphia Stock Exchanges under the ticker symbol WTR.
